The Volcano Playground in the City of Belmont.

The Volcano Playground, Abernethy Rd, Cloverdale WA 6105

The Volcano Playground at Faulkner Park is close to the Belmont Oasis Leisure Centre which provides access to toilets and a café that visitors to the playground are welcome to use. The Playground is surrounded by the Faulkner Park lake network and is adjacent the City’s Civic Centre and is also across the road from the Belmont Forum Shopping Centre.

The playground has a number of barbecues, benches, picnic tables and shade sails and is fully enclosed by a child proof fence and gates. The playground entry gates are unlocked around 6am and locked at around sunset each evening.

The Volcano Playground caters for all of the family and incorporates numerous types of play for the little ones including water play, sliding play,  flying play, sand play, theme play and a toddler playground.

The over all theme is a ruined village with a central volcano. A footpath spirals to the top of the volcano and there are slides to get down. Mist emerges from the top of the volcano simulating smoke/lava. Foggers are placed amongst the palms and stepping stones that the children can run through. There are four jumping water fountains where water shoots out from the ground in a ball and the kids can try to catch the ball of water.

Another element of play equipment draws on a ‘Lost Island’ theme with a large tree house structure. The tree house consists of two towers connected via a wobbly bridge with a 6m high tube slide coming off the tallest tower.

Flying play

The cable way is a flying fox with disabled access ramp which swings the kids across the area and catapults them back. There are two sets of swings for both younger and older children.

Sand Play

There is a shaded sand pit area with two sand tables and a separate sand/water play area.

Theme Play

There is a ship wreck with 3D animals such as crocodiles, sharks and turtles coming out of the softfall turff  for the kids to play on. There are totem poles, big Easter island tribal heads and the footpath has horse shoe marks pressed into the concrete.

Toddlers Playground

The shaded toddlers playground has been designed specifically for children under the age of 5, including crawling babies. The play space provides a variety of activities that encourage social interaction, imaginative play and the development of motor skills. Equipment includes a double swing, tactile panels, rain forest themed springers, an adventure jeep, petal drums, calypso chimes and multi-play units with slides.

The Volcano Playground is an extremely popular playground. It is used by both residents and visitors to the City.

The Volcano Playground is near the Belmont skate park which is for the older kids and young adults.
