Checking out late of an Airbnb.

Late checkout clock

It’s always best checking out on time when staying at any holiday rental. Late checkouts can interfere with the next reservation, especially if the host has a cleaner scheduled or back-to-back bookings. It’s important to leave on time so that the host can prepare the rental for the next guests. If you’re not sure about the check-out time, you can always ask your host in advance. Airbnb provides Ground rules for guests to follow when staying at an Airbnb property.

The check-out time is usually listed on the Airbnb listing page. You can find it by scrolling down to the “Things to know” section and looking in the subsection “House Rules” of the listing page. The check-out time is typically listed there along with other important information such as check-in time, pet policies, and smoking policies.

Some hotels will give you extra time for free, while others will charge you a fee for late check-out the same is true for Airbnb’s. Also you should not plan for late check out with out confirming it with your host. Because sometimes hosts are unable to agree to late checkout.

It’s best to ask for late check-out as soon as you know you’ll need it. Don’t wait until you are getting ready to leave to ask for late checkout. As with Airbnb’s some hotels offer a guaranteed later checkout time for an extra fee. For example, the hotel might charge $24 per extra hour or a fixed rate to stay until 4 p.m. You could either confirm this when checking in or during your stay. It’s not advisable to wait until five minutes before you’re supposed to check out to make this request.

Here’s an example of what you could say: “Hi [host name], I hope you’re doing well! I wanted to check in with you about our check-out time. Our flight doesn’t leave until later in the day, so we were wondering if it would be possible to have a late check-out? We understand if that’s not possible, but we wanted to ask just in case. Thank you so much!”

If you’re staying at an Airbnb rental, it’s important to communicate with your host in advance about your check-out time. Make sure you explain exactly when you need to check out and why. Because a host has so many things to consider when agreeing to late checkout.  Whether or not you can check out late should not come in to consideration when writing your review.
